The Rivers: A Celebration of Life & Work on America's Waterways, with artist Daven Anderson on view July 17 – September 24, 2017
Opening Reception/Artist Talk: July 20 from 6 pm – 8 pm (Members Only 5 pm – 6 pm)
In conjunction with his exhibition at CIMM, artist Daven Anderson will be holding a 2-day Watercolor
Workshop: July 22 & 23, 2017

The Rivers: Exhibition will feature paintings that will carry viewers to the banks of America's greatest waterways and beyond: into the shipyards, onto the docks, aboard the ships, and out on the swift, broad currents. Here, unbeknownst to the vast majority of Americans, more than 500 million tons of freight of all varieties flow past our towns and cities every year. Commercial and industrial maritime operations, brawny, demanding, and usually dangerous to those untutored in nautical transport, are far removed for the safety of the pubic.
A long time Chicagoan, only moving to St. Louis in 2006, artist Daven Anderson is fascinated by urban life. Essentially self-taught, he describes himself as an “urban realist”, painting life as he sees it on the city’s streets. Daven is a studio painter, walking the streets or plying the rivers or ports with his camera, constantly searching for images that capture his imagination. He uses his photos to develop a final composition, which he will painstakingly draw, and finally paint. The end results are beautifully rendered and composed views of a busy, yet mostly unknown world.
The Channel Islands Maritime Museum is located in Oxnard’s Channel Islands Harbor at 3900 Bluefin Circle. CIMM is open Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am – 4 pm; Sundays from 12 pm – 4 pm; Tuesdays and Wednesdays are open for reserved group tours and private member events. Explore galleries full of rare and beautiful maritime paintings dating back to the 1600’s, more than sixty world-class models of historic ships, rotating thematic fine arts exhibitions, and interactive exhibits that encourage visitors to expand their horizons about everything maritime. There is also a well-stocked gift shop. CIMM entry is $7 for adults, $5 seniors and active military with ID, $3 children (ages 6-17), and free for members and children under 6.
